The new PIMs on old Palms - part 3

In the probably the last post about "the new PIMs on old Palms" (part 2 - part 1) you can read how to hide the old applications (Date Book, To Do List, Address Book, Memo Pad) and how to hotsync your data.

Hiding the old applications

Now that you've installed the new applications (Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, Memos) on your handheld, there are now both the new and the old apps in the launcher. To hide the old apps, you need the following files from a device with the new apps (Tungsten T3, E work fine):

  • DateBook *and* localization file(s) (Date Book_deDE for German, Date Book_enUS for English, ...)
  • Address Book and localization file(s)
  • Memo Pad and localization file(s)
  • To Do List and localization file(s)
Read part 2 how to get files from another device's ROM.

Syncing your data

The new PIMs run on your Palm - but you can't hotsync anymore? It seems that you have an old version of Palm Desktop / Pocket Mirror / ... which doesn't understand the new data format. So you need a new version of Palm Desktop, I recommend version 4.1.4. It includes several languages, MS-Outlook and VersaMail conduits. It keeps your old data but you should backup your files before.

Do you like the new apps?

Hello. I tested this on muy T|C.

It works but I have two issues:

1.- The "today" view does not show the tasks.

2.- When I beam DateBook entries from another device (even mobile phones that support the standard, like siemens' ones), DateBook accepts them but I can not view them on Calendar app...

Hello,

>1.- The "today" view does not show >the tasks.

Then you either forgot to insdtall "Tasks-PTod" (it will NOT work with the old To Do List which is pre-installed) or you mean tasks that run out in a few days. It ONLY shows tasks which run out today.

>2.- When I beam DateBook entries >from another device (even mobile >phones that support the standard, >like siemens' ones), DateBook >accepts them but I can not view >them on Calendar app...

Oh... I never tried that. DateBook is the old app and has another data structure as Calender, and they're not compatible. You must try to get Calendar receiving this. I don't know how because I haven't got such a mobile phone at the moment.

Hi,
I'm really close to getting this right. I can't get the 'week view' or 'year view' to show any icons, showing something's scheduled, on a Palm V. Also, can't go to 9 month year view from a month view, as I don't have the 'year' button--though that's not important to me.
I'm really excited about getting this right.
