Treo 670 confirmed!!!

The Treo 670 has been confirmed by an anonymous source, and from the info I received, I am inclined to believe it is true. This device will run WM 5.0, and will have 64MB of onboard memory. Hopefully there will be an announcement by Palm regarding this soon, so there are no doubts in your minds about its existence.

This news coming soon after the Access announcement is actually a good time. Had this device been released before the announcement, it would have only taken away more hope for the future of the PalmOS, but with Access now in control, we know that this great mobile OS will live on.

Any comments and questions can be directed to the comments section below.

Note, Tam's warning on speculation applies here, as I have not seen the device, but I trust in the validity of the source.

I really cant see why anyone would want to put windows on a palm device. It just doesn't make sense, I hope the palm os lives a long life.

I dont quite understand their motivation either. As if the Palm OS isnt good enough an OS. I yesterday had some time with an HTC Magician, and trust m, it is sooo muich more difficult to use than a T3/Symbian Smartphone!
Anyways, all the comment smap is starting to get annoying;).

Likely they have a deal with a cell network that wouldn't deploy Palm OS. But it probably won't hurt to show a backup plan.

Or maybe they're already jumping to WM. I guess we'll see.

Remember, Palm is a hardware company. Their goal is to make money by selling devices regardless if it has Palm OS, WM, Linux, etc. It's about time they acted like a separate company from PalmSource.

I have two words for why Palm is making a Windows device: corporate users. There are a lot of corporate users who just want Windows, plain and simple. The Treo 670 makes money for Palm instead of O2, et al. As baron said, Palm is a hardware company.

It's a business proposition.

Besides, considering how bad Frankengarnet has become, and with the lack of an appearance by Cobalt, Palm is hedging their bets.

I'd have to agree that this is more of a business move more than anything else. They probably think WM sucks too ;-)

Too bad that some customers don't. Customers they want to capture because the current WM smartphones don't measure up to a Treo 650. Customers that are using Exchange servers, confortable running Windows stuff and want Windows Powered mobile devices as well. Humans dwell on consistency and giving them just that, Palm will make money out of this.

I also beleive that carriers are the main reason. We are magically attracted by one simple thing:
Windows Media Player for Windows CE, as it enables simple offering of video content....
-quoting an insider from a provider!
BTW, Windows CE(I used it just yesterday on a HTC magician), is in some ways damn cool, but it is difficult to use. Menus take time to pop up, it takes at least two clicks to get into the launcher,....

They are doing it for people like me. I like my Treo 600 and was looking at upgrading to a WM device for Media and Buiness use.

However, if they release a Sprint Treo 670 with WM on the EVDO network, I will upgrade to that one at the start of the year.

I find it strange that you are only now convinced, after all the other convincing evidence that has been out for months.

The Magician runs wm2003se. WM 5 is much more phone centric. Also the magician has a cool minimalistic look, but a real shortage of buttons, which impacts usability. Many other devices will have more buttons e.g. the WM Treo 670, which will make one-handed easy usage much easier.

I was not necessarily just now convinced that it existed, I am just more sure. You are right, the evidence has been around a while, and it makes sense for Palm. This report from our source is very credible, and just gives more evidence, as well as some possibly new info about the memory configuration.
