FileZ updated to version 6.8

FileZ, my favourite free file manager for everyday use has just been updated to version 6.8. This version includes/introduces the following fixes:

Version 6.8 (7/9/05)

  • added support for the 5-way navigation button
  • fixed a bug in scrolling on some of the new handhelds
  • fixed a bug that prevented the use of certain characters in file/folder names
  • fixed a display bug in the hex file editor
  • updated user manual

While McFile still is the choice for copying our ROM hacks, FileZ is the everyday tool that one can use for all kinds of editing, housekeeping, cleaning up...! The current verson already was tested on my T3 and worked really well!

Get the current version by visiting the PalmGear page:

Or, download the archived version on Tamoggemon OnLine!

Why can't we use FileZ for our ROM hacks? What happens there? Are those files copy-protected or do they have ressources >64 KB. We could send Nosleep Software a mail containing this feature request.

Could you be more specific about what you are asking. The ROM is a little harder to access than the regular memory (impossible in some devices), and it is extremely dangerous to mess with. The ROM is usually copy protected, but FileZ does not usually have a problem ripping the ROM image off of the device.

I wouldn't run a PalmOS PDA without TWO copies of Filez.
One on board.
One on the card.

And that's on a TH55 with ClieFile and ZLauncher's killer file manager!

It's a must-have. :)

I usually run one copy. On the expansion card. I rarely need it because I do have the other file managers, but it is always in reserve, jsut in case. As said, it is a must have app.

If you already are running a Clie with an older version of Netfront, it is usually as easy as copying it to internal memory, and possibly sticking the others shortcut somewhere where you wont hit it. (Sometimes you have to tweak the version ID)On other devices, it is more difficult, if not impossible.
